Research
The Australian Government is investing in research to better understand the potential health and environmental impacts of PFAS, and how to best remediate PFAS contaminated sites. This research includes:
- A remediation research program, which aims to help develop new treatments to remove PFAS from contaminated materials.
- A national health research program, which promotes new research into the effects of PFAS exposure in people.
- An epidemiological study, which is looking at the potential human health effects of PFAS exposure in Williamtown, Oakey and Katherine.
Airservices Australia and the University of Queensland are conducting a study looking into workplace health and safety controls and how effective they are at reducing PFAS exposure.
The Department of Defence and Airservices Australia have also conducted various studies and remediation trials. More details are available on their websites.
